What exactly are people referring to when they say that you can change who you're related to? Marriage? Adoption? Cosmetic Surgery? Health Insurance Groups through new jobs and new (types of) work? Legal (non-marital) Name Changes? Or what?

You can't change who you are related to @blue... You can choose to cut them out of your life though if truly nessasary  for your personal well being.  I see you didn't take my advice and just stop worrying  so much and dance to the slakers instead :/ that's fine :(

Legally you can change who you are related to is by marriage, divorce, adoption, or emancipation. Philosphically, you relate to who you relate to on mental or emotional level. What relative are you the closest to?

My two parents, who are still, luckily, alive.  And my sister, who will probably be all I have left when my parents do go.
