  • 16:54 Guest2870654 answered the question What Is The Name Of The Oldest Railway Station In The World?

“The oldest passenger rail.station in the world is Crown Street Station, Liverpool - 1830. The Liverpool terminus of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway.  It was abandoned in 1836 with the original 1830 Edge Hill station.  Crown St station was demolished.  The original Edge Hill station is still there complete with access staircases - it had no platforms.  Edge Hill station was moved 1/4 mile in 1836 to its current location and is still in use.  However the world oldest used rail station is Broad Green, Liverpool, 1830,  I hope this helps.”

  • 02:48 Guest2870654 answered the question What Is The Second Oldest Underground Train System In The World?

“The system used in Istanbul cannot be regarded as a rapid-transit underground railway network, It was similar to the cars that travel up the Alps by cable, only it was in a "very" steep tunnel running up the side of a hill.   In 1830 the Crown St passenger tunnel, the first along with adjacent 1.26 mile long Wapping Goods Tunnel, were the first tunnel bored under a metropolis.  It  was opened in Liverpool with a station either end.  The stations were not underground.  In 1836 the 1.25 mile Liverpool Lime St tunnel was opened, with a station either end. The stations were not underground. The second oldest true underground railway "network" was the Mersey Railway in 1886.  A very long tunnel under the River Mersey with underground stations either side in Liverpool and Birkenhead.  It was continually extended above and below ground and is now a part of Merseyrail.”
