Akshaya Patra is a secular, not-for-profit program implemented only in government schools where there is no discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, color, or socio-economic background.

Akshaya Patra is a unique & successful example of a Public Private Partnership(PPP) in the Mid Day Meal sector. In partnership with the Central and respective State Governments of India, the Akshaya Patra Foundation is the largest Mid Day Meal Program in the World.

Akshaya Patra believes in reducing the costs and implementing quality through use of advanced technologies, efficient management and quality workforce. Hence the high-tech kitchens are built which ensure quality and cost efficiency.

What is further unique about Akshaya Patra is that it believes in complete all round development of the children. In recognition of the value of good education for the sustainable development of the country, which actually implies a balance between meeting immediate needs such as career opportunities and looking to the future with a long-term vision, the Akshaya Patra Foundation conceived a program called the Vidya Akshaya Patra on the recommendation of the president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. To take care of the health Akshaya Patra provides medical assistance in the form of de-worming and vitamin supplements to the children in these schools, in partnership with other charitable organizations.

The Foundation also encourages pregnant and lactating women to partake nutritious meals provided in schools in an attempt to curb malnutrition among new born children.
