Thanks for the note. This site that I found said that adult dogs that had been vaccinated usually retained their immunity, so I hope you older dog is OK. It sounds like the pup must have had parvovirus already when you got him.

If there is a way to let the place or people know where you got him from that he was sick you should. What if all their animals are infected? I haven't figured out how to let you know the site URL that I had found. I tried to send it in the first message, but the "burtit" site wouldn't let me. I have seen others do it, so I just don't know how, I guess.

I hope everything works out for you with this. I would have just been broken-hearted. Then trying to clean everything . . . I was thinking that that ratio of bleach to water is actually not very high. You could test it on an unseen place on your carpet and see if it stays ok with it's color. It might be all right to use on your material items at this amount.

I have learned a lot from answering this. I knew it was very bad for the animals but I never knew that the virus could live on in your home and the ground.

Good luck to you. ~Kathy

I am so sorry that your dog died. Parvo is such a dreadful thing to have to deal with.

Any areas that are thought to be contaminated with Parvo should be thoroughly washed with chlorine bleach diluted 1 oz. Per quart of water, or 4 oz. Per gallon of water." If you live in a country that uses liters remember that a gallon is 128 oz., a quart is 32 oz., so try to figure the ratio of bleach to water mathematically to that (I am not good with math, so I can't figure it).

I realize that this makes it difficult to deal with carpeting and furniture. This site also states that the parvovirus can survive in the ground and your home for about 6 months. So if you have any other pets, besides getting them vaccinated, it will be very important to deal with ALL your things.

If you have a yard you have to either kill your grass with the bleach, or make sure you wait at least 6 months before getting another pet. My vet had us vaccinate our puppy every 12 weeks for parvovirus for her first few months of life. And then they recommend the yearly shot.

Let me know how it goes.
Take care, ~Kathy
