I think someone tryed to scam me about 6 months ago with this surname who said they were from Thailand and then told me they were visiting father in Nigeria. Person claimed to be of Thai ancestry but things did not add up. Thanks again for your feedback. Tom

Dear Holly, I truly appreciate the work you've done to answer my questions about my surname! Wine is a fun handle to have but my family has always been somewhat confused about its origin. My Father has told us we have Irish roots but my brother who has done geneology research on our ancestry has not been able to confirm that. On my Mother's side, the McDowells, my brother has found our roots in County Roscommon in western Ireland and in April 2007 I visited both our family's abbey and ring fort! Without knowing our cultural roots, we are cut off from our true beginnings and to have learned more is a wonderful gift! Thanks sincerely for doing this research for me! Debra Wine
