Awww. What color is he and have you named him yet and how old? How did the meeting of the cats go, lol? Since timing can vary you need to learn him specifically. Some need to go 5 minutes after and some longer. Average is anywhere from right after to about 20 or 30 minutes. Some find it easier to go after eating, let them play a bit and they usually go. Basically he really shouldn't have an opportunity to go on the floor because he's being supervised and when you see the signals you put them where they need to be. If you go back to the question where I was lucky enough to meet you :-), it's pretty step by step directions. They tend to go often when young and aren't very good at holdong it. As he get's older and more able to hold it you can start cutting the trips to go potty back and then it's on your schedule a few times a day. He is a very lucky boy. ;-) q6150068.html
Usually they are not protected for everything we're vaccinating for until those last sets so having one or two may be the same as not having any in some cases so it's definantly best to wait. Your vet will walk you through when and which ones they recommend based on area and prevelance and risk like lyme and when you can start going out in public and around other dogs. And rabies is required by the state usually somewhere between 3 and 6 months the first time so your vet can tell you when that's due as well. As far as preventative talk to your vet about maybe intercepter as it protects against heartworm and a couple of the more common parasites though I'm not sure about fleas or anything since I don't have them, lol. So that's kind of the short version. Too exited yet?
Your so sweet, thank you. Wow. He has to stay home for quite awhile. They are also VERY prone to parvo. Your vet may recommend starting a parvo vax at 6 weeks and a mild dewormer to start. If that's not done by your friend it's still okay. The pretty standard protocol is starting at 8 weeks and then every 3 to 4 weeks until around 4 or 5 months (the 3 or 4 weeks doesn't vary usually but the rest may vary slightly). The reason is something called titer levels which is basically the pre existing levels in the system. You can test and see when your pup is protected but it's more expensive than just doing the standard protocol (blood tests). The pups titer levels are usually too high or too low at any given time for a vaccine to actually work and the 3 or 4 week schedule gives us the best chance and it's set to try and hit our window of opportunity.
