My friend who is not an electrician just replaced our ceiling fan. There are 4 wires coming out of the ceiling( black, white, red, green) but the fan has only 3 wires(black, white and green). He connected it black to black, white to white, green to green and left the red unconnected. He just capped it. There is only one switch that controls both the light and the fan. The switch on the wall has the red and some gray or black wire connected to it. Everything works but I am just not sure if he did everything right especially the red wire. If it wasn't wired properly, are we going to see it right away that it doesn't work. I'm just afraid that we assume that everything is working then while we are asleep it will create a short and cause fire. Thank you very much for your help! Best regards,
