About Me

Member of the Order of Different Drummers. Let each one dance to the music he hears. I'm an electrical engineer by training, and father to two kids, now grown, who were mostly home-schooled (different from "schooled at home").
_____
Lawrence Lile of Columbia, MO writes in the December 2008 issue of Ode Magazine:

"My high school electronics classes were in the vocational-technical program. Consisting of classes such as "small engine repair" and "practical household plumbing," vo-tech was for dropouts. But the electronics teacher did three things differently than other teachers. The students learned electronics at their own pace. Students took the test in each chapter until they could answer every question; they could fail and fail and fail again with no consequences, finally mastering the material. And the tests were administered by a student who had passed.

"One student had to leave the class because his grasp of mathematics just wasn't up to the material. All the others got As, since they scored 100 percent on all the tests. Members of the school administration were livid. They demanded the students be re-tested by a teacher from another school. All the dropouts aced this test, too. The administration had to admit that allowing students to practice until they'd learned the material, failing less and less at each try, was a fantastic method. Life works a lot like this: you try things until you master them."

My Interests

Contra dance, square dance, problem solving, education, energy healing.

I'm glad you didn't get the winds. We are supposed to be about -6 tonight, so that translates to about -12 or -15. Really. Being closer to the mountains, it get hotter in the summer, and colder in the winter, from what the weatherman says. Lol

Awww, I thought you all would like him!!! JUST KIDDING THERE!!! My son went to go and see him tonight, but he didn't get to. That didn't hurt my feelings, not in the least. I am happy to be here living with my son, his fiance, and my grandson. We are around family for the holidays. That is a great feeling.

At least your air is moving, we are at -5 right now, no wind, and it might get a little warmer tomorrow, by about four degrees. I would greatly appreciate the wind from the south, as up here when we get that, we are usually in the 40s and super windy.

I am so sorry to hear about that. I know that when we were still living in our house as a family, there was some wood rot on the roof, and then we were finding the carpenter ants in our back yard all the time. That was a pain in the butt. We don't live there anymore, of course. So, that isn't something that we are going to have to worry about financing. We are now staying with my son, his fiance, and my grandson. This has been great for the past couple of days. I really am happier here. So is Tigger. ^_^

Hi, We've had a bad day today, trying to relocate our hosting to a highly scalable platform and with disastrous results.

Consequently we have had to revert to our original hosting, but have not as yet moved over your contributions. Rest assured that we will be doing so, so please bear with us and we'll get everything straightened out soon. We are really sorry about this and please leave your comment here.

I Notice That Some Days The Rating Bonus Points Are Added Into The Top Blurter's Score, And Some Days They Are Not. What Is The Rule?

It appears the composite score is 10*[questions answered] + [answers rated] + (?)*[rating bonuses]. Sometimes (?) is 1 and sometimes it is 0.

How Are The Rails Of A Railroad Track Bent To Make The Track Curve?

The inside track of an installation of a short section of railway I've seen recently has what I would call a "piecewise linear" approximation of a curve. The outside track is better, but not terribly smooth....
