Well, his early work isn't all that well known. In fact, what is not chronicled very much is the fact that the biplane he designed was not able to fly until he mounted a plywood plate on each side of the fuselage just aft of the ducted fan jet efflux(where the jet blast goes). As soon as the plates were mounted, the jet blast licked along the length of the fuselage, creating a path for the thrust. This did 3 things to take place. First, there was sufficient thrust for powered flight, second, since the thrust in the ducted fan was produced by squirting fuel into it just aft of the fan, along with igniters, flames also licked along the fuselage, necessitating a rather short flight; i. E., it caught fire. Third, it inspired Coanda to start thinking about his now famous "Coanda Effect", which, boiled down to layman's terms, meant that fluid(in this case air) in motion is sticky. If you look at the trailing edge of any modern airliner with the flaps and other devices deployed, you're seeing the Coanda Effect in action. Coanda went on to create quite a few pneumatic devices, many of which are still theoretical, but some of which are still being applied in various industries. The Coanda Effect builds on Bernoulli's Principle. Sorry to ramble on, but I just wanted to give as complete and concise an explantion using layman's terms; easy to understand, at least I hope so.
