Call me Z

Did you ever have an epiphany “moment” that you realized you were no longer a child? If so, what was the event?

It was either (1) When a neighbour asked me to fix her car.

or

(2) When her (very pretty) grown-up daughter decided to hug me rather a lot after I had done that.

Many years later, I remember that day very clearly, and rather fondly.

It occurred to you that you didn’t mind all the hugging so much.

Until that day, all females were basically a bl**dy nuisance. After that day, my attitude changed a bit.....

I can't click "Thank Writer" for that, it would feel wrong - but you have my immense admiration and sympathy.

Ray and Z, that was 50 years ago. The three of us grew up in an orphanage and are very thankful to even be here .
Thank you.

Not really.  I was in high school, and then I was old.  (Can't quite figure out how it happened.)

I’m taking it this wasn’t a prediction about the distant future, so much as a notification of impending paternity

No, but I was raised being more responsible than most people. My mom was a single parent who worked two jobs. I took over cooking dinner in my early teens. When I got my driver's license at 16 I took over the grocery shopping. At 18 I was on her checking account so I could pay bills.
