Try cleaning your DVD player. It's a special DVD you buy to clean the machine. It always worked for us. (Especially since you said your DVD was just bought.)
Don’t you just hate when you buy a dvd and it keeps skipping?
I hate it when that happens.
Fortunately, it hasn't happened to me with DVD's. I have that problem with a couple of CD's, even after cleaning both the disc and the player. (Probably some damage.)

DVD's are obsolete in my house lol. If i want to listen to music, i got youtube, if i want to watch movies, i got netflix and other platforms. i haven't owned a DVD player in years.
