Can The Old 20 Pound Note Still Be Used After The End Of December?

I came across this site by accident and having seen various questions regarding the old 20 pound notes, perhaps this will help.

The old 20 pound notes are no longer legal tender (ie you cannot use them after 30th June 2010). But for some time (undetermined time so far) after this date, local banks and post office here will still accept them ONLY if you have an account with them AND ONLY if you are depositing these old notes into your account OR you are paying your bills with these notes . They will NOT SWAP them.

You can also exchange them   at the BANK of ENGLAND counter in person ( they said you can do this at any time - no time limit - it's forever and ever, even your great grand children can exchange them years later) or you can post them to an address they gave to exchange them by post. Have a look at this link www.bankofengland.co.uk
or search on google by entering : Old 20 pound notes .....and look for the Bank of England website or other sites the search came up regarding this issue.

Hope this helps and good luck !

They are no longer tender in the U.K  I do not know about other countries, but if you take them to your local bank they can exchange them for you.

As far as I know, you can. The older notes are still being progressively withdrawn from circulation.

They (the Bank of England) apparently make an announcement when it's legal status ends, and they don't have anything official up on their site yet. Anyway, you can always exhange them for their face value at the Bank of London.

For more information, you can go here and here (the latter of the pages shows that both notes are still "current").

Trade them in at a bank or exchange place of your choice, otherwise they will be severally discounted, or useless to you. Do it now.
