An employee's salary is always determined on certain factors. The most important criteria of salary is experience. If you have an experience of more than 10 years you get paid higher, you have an experience of 5 to 10 years you get paid something more than your previous job and if you are a fresher or have less than a year experience you will be paid a minimal salary. Often employees are paid according to industry pay scale or the company standards.

Educational qualification is also an important criterion, for example if you have a professional education qualification then your beginning pay itself is higher. Often salary is also determined on your work quality as in the kind of quality returns you are giving the company. And other minute factors like your attendance, your work and also your behavior towards your clergies.

Well when a company can't afford two employees, they hire one and put them on salary.  This employee is forced to work 80 hrs a week and is a sucker.
