about 40 years ago our dogs on the farm both came down with a disease that paralyzed the rear half of their bodies. They both recovered. Is it possible that our family dog has this disease - he shows the same symptoms?

When anything out of the ordinary with your dog's health happens, please race off to the vet (speeding limit please).  This sounds bad.
