No it's not normal!
Why in the world would you put that child in day care and you sit at home? That makes no sense!
If you're going home just sitting around and staring at the clock why is your child daycare in the first place? It makes no sense to me I'm sure your child would rather spend his day with his mother than with a bunch of strangers.
