Amazon Rainforest is also known as the Amazon Basin. Amazon constitutes half of the total rainforest of the earth. It occupies the northern part of the South America. It constitutes eight nations, some of which includes Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and other neighbouring nations. It has a total area which extends more than 1.6 million sq miles.

It contains most diverse species of flora and fauna. There are about 40,000 plant species and animal species include 378 reptiles, 427 mammals, and a larger number of birds and amphibians.

For human settlement and various other human activities, the forest has been cut down for such purposes. If deforestation is continued at a very high rate, it may affect the forest life considerably. In order to control deforestation, afforestation and conservation of forest has been carried out on a large scale over the past five years.
