Who Is Known As The Lizard King?

Answer Question

Jim Morrison is known as the Lizard king. There are various reasons as to why he was given this title. While some called him so because of his belief and fascination with the occult others think it was because of his independent way of life and his opposition to societal norms. The actual name came from a line in his 'epic poem' titled the Celebration of the Lizard. This also later appeared in one of the Doors album's titled 'Waiting for the Sun'. Some others claim that it was his stark fascination for the occult and his deep interest in Native Indian tribes that earned him this nick name. These tribes generally worshipped animals and used them as symbols in terms of protectors or otherwise. Others state that the title' The Lizard King' was somewhat similar to the one given to Arthur Rimbaud, a French painter (he was nicknamed 'the soles of the wind') because both lead some what similar lives in terms of being tied down with ambition on one hand and a need to drift away on the other.
