How Long Does Xanax Stay In Your Blood?
Answers
Xanax belongs to a category of drugs known as benzodiazepines. This family includes antidepressants like Valium and Librium. This category of drugs usually gives good results if taken at a correct dosage. The dosage depends from person to person, but if there is no sedation it would not usually be regarded as excessive.
Xanax is an addictive drug if used in a high dosage over a long period of time, and has the side effects of sedation and decreased agitation. It also causes withdrawal symptoms if stopped, and can even be the cause of seizures if stopped suddenly. One should consult the doctor and decrease the dosage gradually and then stop if one feels the need.
Xanax generally stays in the blood for around 24 to 36 hours, it can be detected in urine test for up to a week or so.

How could xanax be a benzo if its an antidepressant? Its a benzo, that's it. Xanax is a benzo with a very short half life. It could be out of your system in 2-3 days with a half life of 6-12 hours. It is actually bettter than other benzos in terms of half life. For example, the half life of valium is 20-100 hours and if you take it regularly, can accumulate in your system and be detectable for up to 2 weeks or more.

Xanax is strictly a BENZO!!! It is only called an Anti-Depressant because some people suffer depression only because their anxiety disorder is so troublesome. Therefore when they take Xanax, it relieves the anxiety causing the depression to lift. Also, its half-life is NOT short at all. It's mean half life is 11.2 hours with a range of 6-26 hours.

Also note that there is a time released version of Xanax out (so they could quash the generics) and it would be called Xanax XR or the like. Now that would stay in even longer. Xanax though is not good for general anxiety IMO except in extreme cases since it's spike off effectiveness is sharp. Note the chart below and know that a Half-life is the time it takes a drug to go to 1/2 it's peak concentration, what is left then again falls to 1/2 in another half life. But in the chart Xanax is relatively short acting so the decreased anxiety can rebound on you and you'll possibly feel worse,...
