What Is A Random Access Memory?

Answer Question

6 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

This is a memory that is used by the system to load the files from the hard disc that are currently in use. RAM sits close to the processor making processing faster

for eg say you open microsoft word, on opening it various files needed for running office like template , spell check files etc will be loaded to RAM and on closing the application the contents in the RAM will be cleared and this is why we loose unsaved data. To do this if we save, the contents of the RAM will be saved in the hard disc

Random Access Memory famously known by its acronym RAM, it is a type of a data store that is used in computers, it allows the stored data on the computer to be accessed in any order and not in just any specific order, thus the name Random Access Memory. Normally RAM in a computer is said to be the main memory or the primary storage. There are 5 different types of RAMS; the SDRAM, DDR RAM, RD RAM, DDR 2 RAM and the DDR 3 RAM.

The most important defining characteristic of a RAM is that it can access all of the memory locations at almost the speed.

In computer lingo it is called RAM...the speed of one's computer's abilities.

Random Access Memory is called RAM, in short.

        It is a small chip approx 1.5" (h) x 6" (w).

It is set on one of the slot on motherboard of the computer system.

It is used to store data when the computer is start.

RAM is a required part in computer system.

The RAM's memory is volatile; means the memory is removed when the

        computer is turned off.

It comes in multiple memory size and operating frequencies.

Nowadays most common memory size on RAM chip are:

        512 MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB

It is generally considered that higher amount of memory means good speed.

However it is only half true. Higher frequency is also important.

There are multiple type of RAMs in use today:

        DDR1, DDR2, DDR3

DDR3 is the newest one, more faster, and efficient.

Most of motherboards support only one type of RAM among them.

So, DDR3 type of RAM can not be set on a slot made for a DDR2 RAM.

Well, there is much more about the RAM that can be written.

Wikipedia.org is a good source for more depth information on this matter.

Random Access Memory, is a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly; and it never stores data but whenever power is off it losses all data.

RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other devices, such as printers.

Random access memory it is used to computer data storage,it is the computer can access the data faster than if it to retrieve it from the far-larger hard drive.Random access memory is also used in printers and other devices.
