Cerebral spinal fluid, or Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), is a transparent body fluid which is located in the subarachnoid space in the brain, that is, the space located in the middle of the skull and the cerebral cortex. It is an extremely pure saline solution possessing microglia and works as a buffer for the cortex. It can also be found in the ventricular system of the brain as well as the spinal cord. It is the perfect instance of the distinction of brain operation from the rest of the body, as all the fluid is mostly situated in the brain area.
The fluid is generated by the choroids plexus which enter the lateral ventricles. It then flows through the cerebromeduallry cistern downwards to the spinal cord and above the cerebral hemispheres. It is produced by the ventricles at a rate of around five hundred millilitres per day.
