Chemotherapy is the most common form of treatment cancer sufferers receive. It is also used for diseases such as Leukaemia and other life threatening illnesses. Basically Chemotherapy uses anti-cancer drugs to destroy the cancer cells. Not many people realise that there are over 50 different chemotherapy drugs, and some of those are used on their own, whilst others are combined to give the best possible treatment. Every person is different and the chemotherapy received will all depend upon how far the disease has spread and how severe the problem is.
Chemotherapy does make a patient ill and so it tends to be given in short periods of time followed by a resting period. Each time the patient should see that the cancer cells have slowly been destroyed and there should be less each time treatment is received if it is working. Overall it is the most effective treatment for eliminating cancer, and it will be used for years to come.
