Terence Chi-Shen Tao is said to have exhibited extraordinary mathematical abilities from a very early age. Tao attended university level mathematics courses at the tender age of nine and is on the annals of history of the Johns Hopkins' 'Study of Exceptional Talent' program to have achieved a score of more than 700 on the SAT maths section when he was just 8. Terence Chi-Shen Tao was the youngest member to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiads in 1986, 1987 and 1988. Tao won the bronze, silver, and gold medal respectively. At age 14, Tao joined the Research Science Institute and was awarded the bachelor's and master's degrees at 17. From 1992 to 1996, Tao studied at the Princeton University and received his Ph.D. at the age of 20.
