Withington is a suburb of the city of Manchester. Manchester is a city located in the county of Lancashire in England. The railway station closest to the Manchester suburb of Withington is East Didsbury Railway Station.
East Didsbury Railway Station is a route on the rail route that extends from Manchester to Crewe. It is used by the Northern Rail and First Transpennine Express. The Northern Rail and First Transpennine Express use East Didsbury as a station on the Manchester Airport route operated by it. It has two platforms which are currently in use. The East Didsbury Railway Station was built by the London and North West Railway. The route extended from Alderley Edge and went along the line into Manchester Piccadilly.
The East Didsbury Railway Station was opened in the year 1909. It closed down in the year 2006 for a period of about seven weeks, during which it was refurbished. In the earlier days there was a railway station called Withington and West Didsbury, which was the next station on the line after East Didsbury Railway Station. It was called Withington until the year 1884 and Withington and Albert Park between 1884 and 1915, before it was finally renamed to Withington and West Didsbury in the year 1915. At present, there is only a boundary wall called Brankgate Court on the site of the erstwhile Withington and West Didsbury Railway Station.
