What Does Mediterranean Mean?

    The word Mediterranean can trace its origin in the Latin word mediterraneus which means inland. But the word is being used for a sea that is situated in the Atlantic Ocean and it is almost completely enclosed by land and so is the name. The sea is enclosed by the three continents Asia, Africa and Europe and it covers approximately 2.5 million square kilometres of area.
          
    In ancient times the sea has been attributed with the title of the super highway of transport and it is this sea that played a vital part in the exchange of trade and culture of many civilisations. The Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Semitic, Persian and many other civilisation took the benefit by involve into the exchange of their culture with the help of the Mediterranean Sea.
