What Does Diffusion Mean?

Diffusion is a noun that refers to the process or act of diffusing or being diffused, it also refers to a needless profusion or use of words. It also refers to the spread or absorption of culture and language from the interaction between communities. In Physics it refers to light being scattered when reflected by a rough surface, or the transmission or passing of light through a translucent material and also the intermingling of particles spontaneously when two or more substances experience random thermal motion.  

Synonyms of the word include dispersal, dissemination and dispersion.  

Diffusion is also a term found in marketing which refers to the process by which a new product or idea which grasps the attention of a few and is gradually adopted by all the members present in that target market.

It really depends on the context of the word but a basic definition might be simply:  The movement of a substance where there is high concentration or volume to an area where there is low concentration or volume. Hope that helps. :-)
