The river Nile flows in Africa and is considered as major north flowing river. It is also the longest river on earth with the total length of 6,695 kilometers.  This river has two tributaries: the Blue Nile and the White Nile. They both meet in Sudan near its capital Khartoum.

The Nile has the distinction of serving one of the most ancient civilizations on earth; the Egyptian civilization. And most of the historical sites pertaining to the civilization are located on the bank of the river Nile.

Even today the Nile plays an important role for the people residing along its banks; the river, during floods, deposits the field with fertile soil. People also use the river system to transport goods to several places that are situated along its bank.
