Both Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin landed on the moon at the same time when they landed in the Apollo 11 Lunar Excursion Module (LEM).

An unmanned Russian probe landed on the moon earlier.

The controversy stems from a book published in 1974 called "We Never Went to the Moon: America's Thirty Billion Dollar Swindle"  and later the movie, Capricorn One, made in 1978.

Neil was the first to set foot on the moon, and was the one that uttered that famous (flubbed) line "That's one small step for man, but one large step for mankind."  Buzz said something like "that might have been a small step for Neil, but it was a big step for me."

The moon landings were perhaps the best documented events in human history:
        • hours of footage
        • thousands of pictures
        • nearly a half ton of moon rocks
        • millions of eye witnesses
There is no reason to think that they were faked, or that someone landed on the moon before Armstrong. The only two countries that had a space program in the late 60's, early 70's were the US and the Soviet Union. The Soviets could be the only people to land on the moon before Armstrong. Seeing as we were in a space race with them, they would've jumped all over the opportunity to say they landed first. Instead, the president got a  congratulations letter from Russia soon after Apollo-11.

Armstrong went first, followed by Aldwin.

No. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin may have landed on the Moon at the same time, but Neil was the first man to set foot on the Moon.

Some say that the Nazis colonised the moon in between the world wars and established a mining base on the "dark side" which is still in use to this day. Antarctica being the place where you depart from and return to!However I watched it all live on TV and it was definitely Mr Neil Armstrong!!
