In terms of population the largest state in the United States is California (about 36 million people) owing to its warm climate, fertile areas and large influx of immigrants. The second largest state is Texas both in terms of land area as well as population and is also one of the leading agricultural and industrial regions in the United States.
The highest point in the United States is Mt. McKinley in Alaska State at a height of 20,320 ft (6,194mts) above sea level while the lowest point is the Death Valley in California State at 282 ft (86mts) below sea level.
The major cities in Alaska are Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau which is the capital, the state is also an important part of the energy scenario in the United States with the discovery of a large oil and gas reservoir at Prudhoe Bay in 1968.
California is well known for a number of reasons from being a major tourist destination boasting of places like Yosemite National Park, Disneyland and Hollywood to being one of the most progressive states along with Texas and of course for its Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
