What Is A Christmas Tree?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Christmas tree is associated with the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ i.e. celebration of Christmas. It is an evergreen coniferous tree brightly decorated with candles, ribbons, tinsels, colorful balls and various gifts. The best species of Christmas trees are the fir, having good foliage color and scent. The Giant Sequoia, Junipers, the Cypress and Spruce are widely used as Christmas trees all over the world. There are artificial trees as well for more convenient use.

The historical fact behind the Christmas tree denotes the idea of the evergreen foliage. This in other words implies renewal of life. California, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina are the top Christmas tree producing areas where the fir trees grow. The largest selling trees are Scotch pine, Douglas fir and Noble fir. Fraser fir, Virginia pine, Balsam fir and white pine can also be used for decoration purposes.

It should be noted that the tree is 'associated' with Christmas, and is a purely cultural addition to an originally religious festival (which had its origin in a pagan celebration). Neither observance of the Christmas holiday or erection/decoration of a Christmas tree are required of followers of Christ in the Bible though. Remembering the birth of Christ is not a 'bad' thing however, and people throughout the world have chosen to do so using a variety of forms.
