How Did The Titanic Get Its Name?

Answer Question

The word titanic means having enormous strength and size. The RMS Titanic probably got its name from its gigantic size; it weighed in at 46, 328 tons. It had two sister ships the Olympic and the Britannic which weighed in at 45,323 and 48,328 tons respectively.  The Britannic is heavier because modifications were made to her after the Titanic's disaster.
It sank in 1912 on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, after colliding with an ice berg. It was built in Belfast in Ireland at the Harland and Wolff shipyard. It was an Olympic class Passenger liner. Edward John Smith was its Captain. There are many legends surrounding the titanic. Some say that it was carrying an Egyptian mummy who allegedly was cursed and that's why the ship sank. Others say that when the Titanic was christened the bottle of Champagne did not break and this is a bad omen in sea lore. In reality the Titanic was never christened.

The origin of the name Titanic came from the 'Titans,' who are powerful
giants from Greek-Roman legends. The word 'Titanic' means,

      1. Having great stature or enormous strength; huge or colossal
      2. Of enormous scope, power, or influence.
