The war in Europe started on September 1st 1939 when German troops invaded Poland and France and England declared war on Germany. But it wasn't a "World" war until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941. Then it actually became a world war as many more nations around the world became involved.
