Be sure a diagnosis and an mri have been performed first.Vertigo can be a symptom of Legionares disease, menniers disease, anxiety disorder, brain tumor,or some chronic cochlea inner ear disturbance. However vertigo itself is treated with antihistamines such as dyphenhydramine hci,or benzodiazapines including klonopin, xanax, can be treated with mecklazine or even the famous motion sickness pill-dramamine.

10 years ago I experienced vertigo. It started out small episodes and got worse and worse. I also had headaches and was having what transient ischemic attacks in my left leg. I was 33 yrs old and they done so many tests on me trying to find out what was wrong with me,but they nedidn't check my heart because they said I was too young for heart problems. I went through numerous tests and painful tests and biopsies and they couldn't find what was causing this horrible vertigo, which by now it has been a year and I am unable to get out of bed because the vertigo was so hurrendous, and the little I could get up I was having to use a walker. So please please have him\her to get checked! I ended up having 4 strokes before they checked my heart and the test showed up 1 atrial septal defect but when they opened me up I had 4 holes in my heart instead of just the one that the test showed up.My prayers and thoughts are with your friend.
