Hi there,

Congratulations to all those new fathers who have been blessed with a new bundle of joy!

Fatherhood can be a rewarding and also nerve racking experience for first time dads. So whether you are scared about being a good dad ( you are not alone) or simply want to get some beneficial advice here are a few tips to set you on the right track:

  • Stay calm and relax. You are not alone - remember that nobody has been truly prepared before having a baby. A new addition to the family is a journey which will give you a rewarding experience and you will constantly learn about what it is like to be a dad as your child develops.
  • Organise your baby items. Ensure that you have plenty of stock of nappies and baby bath essentials for your baby which will save time running around at the last minute after your baby's born.
  • Talk to your baby. They may not understand what you are saying but parents are encouraged to converse with their baby even if it is just by singing a lullaby. This enables your child to get use to your voice and connect with you as they become more comfortable and at ease by listening to your voice.
  • Communicate with your partner or spouse. Good communication with your partner about your worries and concerns or what you want for to give your baby will make you feel happier and reassured. Your partner may be just as worried as you about being a new parent and talking to each other can help you both to support one another.

  • Capture those special moments. From the time your baby is born you will find a number of beautiful moments from the first time they smile and when they first grip your hand. Why not capture these moments on film or camera so that you have some wonderful memories when your kids grow older.

Enjoy fatherhood as it is a blessing and you can be a great dad  by supporting, listening and caring for your child to the best you can.
