Borneo is actually in 3 countries. The northern area is part of Malaysia, comprising two provinces Sabah and Sarawak. This is perhaps the most popular place to visit Borneo from, with good conservation projects and tourism infrastructure, including some great beach resorts with diving.
The small Kingdom of Brunei is located to the North East of the island and is the only country will all its territory in Borneo. Ruled by the Sultan, he is one of the richest men in the world due to the areas amazing natural resources.
The largest part of Borneo is known as Kalimantan and is part of Indonesia. It contains the heart of the island and much of the remaining wilderness. Sadly this jungle suffers from logging, palm oil production and forest fires caused by slash and burn farming practices, all of which are a danger to its populations of orangutans and rhino.
