To brown them faster I reccommend freezing them, then thawing them, but thaw them on the counter. They don't have to be completely frozen for this to work, just put them in th freezer for 1-11/2 hours then take them out and let them get back to room temp.
Its not supposed to smell bad. Maybe thers an infection. It should smell good, due to all the pheromones, but like I said might be an infection. FYI: Doesn't need to be sexually transmitted either, just an imbalance will make the scent "off"
