I just made a batch of oatmeal cookies and I converted white sugar to brown sugar by using a ratio of 1 tsp of molasses to 1/4 cup granulated sugar. It worked well for cookies. Re the answer above brown sugar has molasses in but I don't think it is made from molasses.
