Many Craftsman push lawnmowers are now equipped with four-cycle engines. It's entirely possible that you have accumulated condensation in the oil, which within any older engine will allow an increasing consumption of oil as the engine operates.  If that oil is laden with water,  it will cause a white exhaust smoke.
