How is "Roadkill" handled, removed and disposed of (especially in cities) when it is done so PROPERLY?

In my city, a dead animal under 10 pounds may be put in with the ordinary trash for collection.  (That's what I do with rats, mice, rabbits, and squirrels that I may find deceased in my yard.)

I have always taken my pets to the vet when they pass.
