What is it like being in the military? I'm currently working on a book about a young man in the marines. I've done some research, but obviously, you'll never get the full unfiltered truth about what it's like.

Go to a VFW or an American Legion and ask to talk to a few vets. If you live near a Marine nstallation you could ask their Public Affairs Officer if you could hold a "round table" with a few of the men and women.

I wasn't a Marine but my son was for almost 25 years. So all I could give you is some old Army experiences but the Marines always had the toughest jobs. If I get a chance to talk to him, maybe he will tell me some of his experiences. I just know that they weren't very good Poker players. !

That is an awfully wide open question. If I were you I would make a list of more specific questions and talk to the people that Ancient One mentioned or go talk to a recruiter. Also keep in mind that a person's military experience will also depend on their job. A cook's experience is going to be different from an infantryman. Or mechanic's is going to be different than a MP's. An officer's different from an enlisted person's.
