Dear Anonymous,

My list may not be what you are looking for...and some out of time... For me beauty in an actress may have more to do with the power of her (sometimes dark) feminine presence in films...

  • Kathy Bates, have loved her since the dark psychological thriller DOLORES CLAIBOURNE...for me, great beauty.
  • Glenn Close, just incredibly lovely (see FATAL ATTRACTION).
  • Julia Roberts, for example PRETTY WOMAN, a prostitute who won't give up her dream.
  • Maggie Smith; strong presence with high penetrating nasal twang which could be (endearingly) irritating...so beautiful...go Maggie!
  • Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep, Geraldine Page, Agnes Moorehead...

I have not yet watched any films with Charlize Theron, but have a hunch she would end up on my list, also.

A fresh loveliness as a young woman, Agnes Moorehead for example matured into a magnificent "beauty;" deep, complex, fascinating.

As he grew older Heinlein expressed some very gross ideas, but there's no doubt he also had a gift for beauty. (He once spent a couple of pages describing a butterfly through the eyes of a man who had never before visited Earth. As much as I like butterflies I had never thought them quite so lovely.)

I envy you having seen the lady. I've only seen the pictures. I couldn't even remember the name of the sculpture and only basically what Heinlein had written about her. I was fortunate to find the quote above after a short search.

Hmmm...I did not really realize that about the gross ideas as he grew older...at one point I thought I would read everything he wrote, but got as far as FARNHAM'S FREEHOLD and did not care for it...end of Heinlein for me...

He got into incest in some of his books. The one that finished me off was "Grumbles from the Grave" which his wife published posthumously. In that he whined about all manner of people and things. Very unpleasant. Back in an hour or so.
