Hi Stuart. I would love to see them disappear from stores and the planet. Those things are everywhere. One thing that disturbs me is the fact that my recycling pickup company strictly prohibits them in the recycling bin. They won't take them.
I am gonna be honest here...... I HATE the new California law that we can't have plastic bags and we have to buy the ones that are thicker! To me it is asinine to ban plastic just to have paper bags. Don't you have to cut down the TREE'S in order to have paper bags? I used the old plastic bags to their death! Lol! These ones you gotta buy are worthless to me. I can't use them for the things I used the thinner ones for. Let's just say, it makes my life harder and I noticed it makes the poor cashiers life harder! I don't like the new law.
Yes. I know that Woolworths and Coles have a drop-off where you can put your used plastic bags which get turned into school yard furniture and playgrounds, ect. Kmart charges 10c per bag, which I think helps, but it would be good to see them completely banned.
Plastic bags are bad for the environment and wildlife, however even though paper is degradable, it may not be more beneficial in terms of climate change impact. The reasons for paper’s higher carbon footprint are complex, but can mostly be understood as stemming from the fact that paper bags are much thicker than plastic bags. Very broadly, carbon footprints are proportional to mass of an object. For example, because paper bags take up so much more space, more trucks are needed to ship paper bags to a store than to ship plastic bags.
I use a shopping trolley and reuse my bags. There are many things that are damaging to the environment, these new electric cars are not environmentally friendly when it will come to the disposal of their batteries.
When world leaders stop flying private jets to meet up at climate change meetings, and stop building more runways I may take them seriously.
I'll do my bit, recycle, pick up rubbish, but from observation, climate change is a way of taxing the serfs, leaders do not care about the planet if they did then there are cheaper and ozone friendly fuels which they will not let us use.
