The coolest hand me down that I ever got was my first bicycle, from my older cousin. He was about 10 years older than me and I always looked up to him. He was the closest thing I had to a brother. He put new tires on it (those old balloon tires), polished the chrome and painted it a bright blue.

The bike is the very same hand me down that I've given. I actually gave it to my little cousin, the much younger brother of the same cousin that gave me the bike in the first place.

I actually prefer hand me downs over brand new things. It sounds crazy but I don't like the "stiffness" of new. Hand me downs are broken in. Anyways my most sentimental hand me down was a glass jar my Grandma had. The reason why it was sentimental was because I used it to help me potty train each of my three girls. It was my grandma's who passed away plus it had the perfect lid and I can still remember their excited little hands in the jar grabbing a M&M or two. Lol! But the best part came next.... My youngest daughter ended up breaking the glass jar. As I was cleaning up the glass I was upset saying "This was my grandma's glass jar! She is in Heaven now! This was sentimental to me! This was the glass jar that held all you girls pee pee on the potty prize! What if mommy was to have another child!" Oh I was so sad.... She apologized so much that I finally had to keep telling her "It's okay. It was just a jar." For MONTHS this child apologized to me. Then one day she was looking at a glass jar my mom had. She was admiring it. She LOVED it. She thought it was so beautiful so my mom gave it to her. About a week later she came up to me and said "I want to give this glass jar to you because I broke your first glass jar." I was at a loss for words when she continued "this was my grandma's glass jar and she gave it to me so now it's like your grandma's glass jar cuz it's my grandma's glass jar." Now I have a new favorite glass jar. The old one didn't mean HALF as much to me as this one. ☺
