Filing a divorce starts with Form 1, the Notice to Defend and Divorce Complaint. This form is three pages long and you are required to make two copies, taking the original copy to the county office to file the pleadings.
From there, you can then officially serve your spouse the complaint - either yourself or by a professional - we recommend a legal professional. If your spouse consents to the divorce, you must wait 90 days after serving the complaint to complete the Affidavit of Consent and a Waiver of Notice.
If your spouse does NOT consent to the divorce, you must wait two years from the date of separation to file a contested divorce and file the two forms above. Filing for divorce can oftentimes vary by state - for more information on what to do when filing for a divorce, it's best to consult an experienced family lawyer.

Check with the state in which you reside to see if you meet residency and other requirements for initiating your own "no-fault" divorce.
