When I was growing up washing machine were in their primitive stages but I was taught the basics. When I was in the military we had machines on each floor of the barracks. You would not believe what disasters would occur.  The one that comes to mind is the time is the time a young man put a cup of "dish washing" liquid in the washing machine instead of the regular powder or liquid. It took the platoon three days to clean the mess. I also unintentionally caused a minor problem when I was a young single father of two babies, before pampers. I did not have access to a washing machine so I used a local laundromat. I always rinsed out all the diapers but I would come home from my second job too late to go to the laundromat.  I took over a weeks worth of diapers and trudged down to the local laundromat very early on a Saturday morning. I loaded 14 machines and started all fourteen one after another. As Janis will you that wasn't a smart move. About two minutes after the rinse cycle when they all basically drained at the same time a man hole cover in the street popped up about a foot and a flood of soap and water flowed down the street.  It was still very early and I was the only one there. I keep my head low and after drying all the diapers rushed home.

Yes i went to the laundromat and by accident i put in too much laundry detergent and it over flowed the washer , thank God there was a laundry clerk there and she helped me out but it was so embarrassing.

That's embarrassing when you do that. I've had that happen to me when I was younger and I thought More meant cleaner clothes. 😂

Oh yes.  I once owned a couple of laundromats .... You wouldn't believe what people do to a machine that isn't their own!  Beach towels full of sand, nut shells, 3 or 4 loads stuffed into one machine (and back then, unrinsed cloth diapers).

At home, I've always been able to use a washer and dryer for years until they finally wear out .... No drama!
