A vacuum could get the small pieces out.  Reach into the hole with some sort of strong glove to get the big chunks out.

Stick with earth tones like browns, reds, oranges, yellows and greens.  Those colors with some light through the windows and maybe a plant or two will really brighten up your guestroom.EricaMaidPro

You can use a vinegar/ammonia/soap/water combination.  Good cleaning power, not a very harsh smell.
