Actually both ! Thanking them means you liked the answer and voting is a courtesy you give for liking the answer or it was helpful to you. I usually always give both when I like an answer. Just good manners.

There are a few differences between thanking and up-voting:

  • Thanking a writer creates a notification which the author will receive on Blurtit, and via email if they have that setting turned on.
  • Thanks are also publicly visible in feeds and on the page, by other users.
  • Voting an answer up or down doesn't create a notification and happens anonymously when it's a down vote.
  • Blurtit also takes into account up votes and down votes to determine the order of answers on a page.

Hope that helps!

Thank is visible while upvote is kind of anonymous. Upvote only determines the order in which the answer flow while thank will be a statistic figure beside the thumbs up icon.
