Nope, not too long at all! The character limit (250 characters max.) serves the purpose of being succinct with one's questions and for simplicity (as stated if you cross the maximum character count). If anything, I reckon you can elaborate it in the comment section of your own question, and refer to your comment in the main question.
(Hm... Unless you find a way to break this character limit on your own.)

Getting the question length right was something we gave a lot of thought to when designing Blurtit.

As it stands, it may be inconvenient for people who want to ask specific or detailed questions, but there are some reasons for having a 250 character limit to questions:

  1. Readers can tell what a question is about very quickly and choose whether to click into the page easily when browsing the site.
  2. It keeps the feeds tidy. Imagine what they'd look like if every question was super long.
  3. It encourages conversation and creativity. Sometimes, when you have less characters, questions become more accessible, less specific to an individual user or problem, and as Twitter has proved... Sometimes less is more!
