You decide to build a new city. What do you call it? Where do you put it?

I'd call it Llewellen City because I like double L's. It would be a rural city with a diner and one traffic light.

Ankh-Morpork.  It will straddle a river so polluted that the river can't catch fire because flame refuses to go near it.

Hah! I've just started reading The Colour of Magic so I know where you're coming from. Yesterday I wouldn't have had a clue. :)

Pratchett is wonderful. Colour of Magic is, IMHO opinion, one of the lesser Discworld books, but a good introduction. Enoy.

Wherever we put it a city will overpower the environment so, like Corey, I'll opt for a cold climate. Unlike Corey, I'd build it on Antarctica. Since living so near the South Pole would be uncomfortable we'd have to build the city under a giant dome which could be heated and where fresh produce could be cultivated in vast hydroponic gardens.

Because the city existed under such a shelter I would call it Underdome.

It would be impractical to expect farm animals to cope with the cold so any wannabe farmers would have to make do with breeding seals, walruses and killer whales. They wouldn't be able to bring them into the city, of course, but could set up their seal ranches Beyond Underdome.

I call my city "Reyoarfell" and I place it on a small island in the high North where it seemingly is stuck in a never ending winter.
