Is the American Dream okay? Is it still alive and thriving, or has it been compromised too deeply? Thoughts from people outside the US are also requested and solicited.

Example: the other day I met a man with severe health problems from stress, and so young...turns out he was in the environmental movement, when 9/11 happened.

Apparently within days of the Patriot Act, the government turned its attention to environmentalists. What had been perfectly legal, now they had the means to go after these folks. The man spent several weeks in jail, some of his friends went to prison - long sentences. This fellow is even now fearful...his offense, for which he was jailed? He was passing out leaflets...
I forget what he said the prosecutors called that.

Also, he was Native American...as are a disproportionate number of environmental activists.
So, are we still okay? And, how do we get back closer to the intention of those who formed the Constitution?

The American Dream is alive and well, thought it may be slightlye  tarnished, dinged and dull looking. Now what is the American Dream has changed many times over the past 20 years. Difinitions are as diverse as the American.

The American Dream has always been alive and well, for a selective few lucky enough to find their dream... I however, I'm not that lucky.

I'm thinking the American Dream is very much alive dependant upon one's perspective .. It is sought after by many people at home and abroad. Just think of the refugees that have found refuge in the USA .. THAT is exactly what they are after.

Even reading your words, yes...people I have met come to mind, grateful immigrants who could hardly believe all the freedoms they have here in the USA...
