If it's a close friend you should expect to disagree sometimes, especially about politics. If, on the other hand, your friend has attacked YOU rather than your opinions it's a sure sign that you just won the argument, s/he has no answer to the devastating point you just made, and is subconsciously trying to get you off track.

Good friends -- even spouses -- don't have to agree on everything.

I'm the same as I am on here ... I will throw a  bloody  fit ( temper tantrum ) ... Say things out of anger and rage cos I have no filter and I need to say what is on my mind at the time and be true to myself.  I never say anything I don't mean.  So if I say something , I mean it . But the next day I'll be fine and forgive any issues I may have had with anyone cos I got to have my say.  I may still think you're an idiot ... But if you hear me out ... I'm cool with you. I'll agree to disagree ... After I tell them they're wrong ;)

It's a rare occasion that my friends and I would ever become offensive during a heated exchange. We've always treated each other respectfully even when not in agreement. So, if it happened we would back off, go to our corners, regroup, and agree to disagree. Then we would probably do shots until we got sappy and proclaimed our love for each other.

It depends on how offensive it is. If it is mildly offensive I would do my best to let them know what they said was offensive and explain as to why, in a calm manor. If it was something that was extremely offensive, I would ask them if they are truly be that ignorant. Then I would walk away, because you cannot reason with people like that.
